What are cookies?

Cookies are small pieces of information that are downloaded to your device when you use an app. Each time you open an app, cookies are sent back to it (or to other servers that recognises them). Why? Generally, to make the app work and to provide information back to the people who run the app.

Cookies do lots of different jobs. In general terms they:
• Remember your preferences within apps;
• Recognise the device you’re using each time you open an app;
• Make it easier for you to log in and use an app;
• Tell app owners which parts of the app you visit;
• Show you content or ads (if you’ve opted in to see these);
• Help to keep apps secure.

For more detailed information about cookies please visit aboutcookies.org or allaboutcookies.org.
